An alliance between TAFE NSW – Western Sydney Institute and the University of Ballarat has led to the delivery of the Advanced Diploma of Business Management through the Fast»Track program. To date more than 100 managers have studied the course at around five campuses in Western Sydney.
Pam Pearson, Fast»Track Program Coordinator, Western Sydney Institute, said the course was developed to meet the needs of industry. ‘Managers completing formal study are time poor,’ she said. ‘So many have the experience but not the formal qualification. With this course they can achieve the qualification within six months instead of the usual two years.’
The program is structured around an exciting six-month program of facilitated, open, collaborative and active learning workshops as well as a work-based research project.

Nova Employment finds jobs in the general community, at award wage for people who have a disability. Chief Executive Martin Wren had been a manager for some 20 years but had no professional development training before he completed the course. He was so pleased with the results that he signed up two of his employees.
‘I saw significant improvements in performance through our association with Fast»Track and it seemed logical to build on that,’ Mr Wren said. A regional and training manager had completed the course recently and another regional manager had just started. He said it had led to enormous benefits for the organisation such as better staff retention, formerly a problematic issue.
Paul della Libera, Operations Manager, Western Division, Marsupial Landscape Management said Fast»Track opened up a world of information and opportunity. ‘It has helped my development both as a manager and as a person,’ he said. ‘I would strongly recommend Fast»Track to anyone who wants to better their potential and who strives to stand out from the pack.’
Ms Pearson said the partnership between the Institute and University was valuable to both organisations because it had allowed them to expand their educational programs and offer new and different courses. ‘Employers are also winners as the students are able to use the knowledge they gain from the programs in their everyday working environment,’ she said.
Those who complete the Advanced Diploma may then complete the Graduate Certificate in Business (Professional Management) which is offered in a similar format. Successful completion of this Program forms the pathway to the highly-regarded MBA.
