Ambitious professionals are benefiting from a flexible and fast-tracked pathway to formal project management qualifications provided by TAFE NSW – Illawarra Institute.
Advanced Project Management training and certification delivered by the Institute offer extra incentives for professionals including endorsement from the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM).
Cathy Buckmaster, Business Development Manager, Illawarra Institute, said places in Advanced Project Management courses were being filled quickly. A number of local councils and companies had sent people to around 10 TAFE PLUS open and customised courses during the past year.
‘The AIPM endorsement means that people who do these courses can then apply to become registered project management practitioners,’ Ms Buckmaster said.

The Certificate IV and Diploma in Project Management courses have attracted employees from a range of skills sectors including local government, construction and defence. Leisa Brennan is the Recreation Coordinator, Roads & Recreation Services at Eurobodalla Shire Council and completed her Certificate IV.
‘I gained a better understanding of the organisational skills and documentation required to efficiently manage a project from start to finish,’ she said, adding that the considerable expertise of participants provided enhanced learning and networking opportunities.
Bruno Corletto, Education & Training Consultant, Illawarra Institute, said participants had reported that the course provided a flexible and fast-tracked pathway to formal project management qualifications, validating experience and job roles. They also said the course presenter's experience and professionalism were of great benefit.
Illawarra Institute recently submitted a tender in conjunction with PricewaterhouseCoopers to deliver training in project management. As part of this alliance, TAFE NSW has developed a range of programs including Introduction, Certificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Project Management, supported by practical coaching sessions from experienced project management practitioners.
