TAFE NSW trainers have the industry knowledge. |
South Western Sydney Institute is delivering the Multimedia Technician training over three years at Certificate IV and Diploma levels at the Macquarie Fields College. The College is considered a centre of excellence for IT training and is conveniently located close to the Holsworthy Defence Base.
‘Our technical expertise, flexible delivery options and strengths in customising training helped us to win the tender,’ said training consultant Inas Sedrak. ‘We were able to customise both delivery and assessment of multimedia training to make it work-specific and relevant in a Defence context.’
The course was set up as part of the training continuum for Multimedia Technician (MMT) staff within the Army. Andrew Westover is the senior multimedia instructor at the School of Military Engineering and said TAFE NSW training added to the skill sets the MMTs already possessed.
‘TAFE NSW provides qualified instructors who have up-to-date industry knowledge,’ he said. ‘This gives our trainees a broader view as to what they will be able to produce and adds greater value to the final product. The knowledge they gain can also be taken back to their places of employment and added to their units’ capabilities.’
The employees taking part are senior sappers or junior non-commissioned officers who have been identified for promotion. Those completing the Certificate IV will learn a host of skills including how to manage multimedia assets and create special effects for the screen and 3D models and images. Copyright requirements, managing projects, developing multimedia scripts and creating 3D digital animation are also among the skills being acquired by those staff completing the Diploma.
‘We are all very excited by the opportunity to assist the Department of Defence to develop the skills of its workforce,’ Ms Sedrak said.
